Blog Post #4: Movies

Movies have been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. My memory of film goes back to 1997, when I was three years old.  When it comes to films released between 2011 and 2012, my favorite by leaps and bounds is Warrior starring Tom Hardy and Joel Edgerton. That year in cinema was one that I truly hated, culminating with the detestable crowning of The Artist as Best Picture. Warrior, however, was a gut-wrenching, electric, straight forward, heart breaker of a film. The story revolves around two brothers, Brendan and Tommy, who unknowingly participate in the same Mixed Martial Arts tournament.  Brendan and Tommy, who’s fighting sytles are polar opposites of each other, make their way through the tournament and face off in the title match. The drama in this film is quite powerful, the family dynamic being the story’s catalyst.

My favorite film of all time is In Bruges starring Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson. The performances are wonderfully comical and uniquely memorable.  The writer/director Martin McDonagh is one of my favorite filmmakers due to his hilarious sense of humor and truly “out there” storylines, none more evident of this then his 2012 movie Seven Psychopaths— another favorite of mine.

I also enjoyed the movie The Warrior also. The plot was really good but towards the end you had a feeling that Brendan was going to win the tournament.
