Week #8: Media Law

By: Karissa Louie

Cambridge University Press v. Patton is an ongoing case in which three publishers, Oxford University Press, SAGE Publications, and Cambridge University Press are suing Georgia State University for copyright infringement.  The publishers claim that Georgia State University infringed on their copywriters through its e-reserve system and illegally distributed unauthorized copies of their copy written work.  I feel this court case should be judged based on the copyrighted laws for books, because although e-books are online and it is much easier to find illegal copies- the same laws should apply.  Without purchasing the e-book legally, the University is at fault.
