Sudden Media Impact
I’m pretty sure we have all noticed that this generation has been deemed very disrespectful and sexist towards women in society. Even though strong women such as Ronda Rousey, Serena Williams and the US Women’s Soccer team have become great role models for women all over the world, there is still no respect shown towards women and are still shown in media as glorified sex symbols and not worth being taken serious in society or cherished in personal relationships. I noticed this growing up that women get no respect in society or men in particular and it’s so sad that society has not evolved yet to show that women although they are beautiful, are good for nothing but sex. This gets glorified in all types of media movies always show women as either the damsel in distress or the sex symbol, it took until this past couple of years to show strong women movies like Jennifer Lawrence in the Hunger Games Saga, Ronda Rousey in the Expendables 3 and the most recent is Daisy Ridley in her starring role in one of the best movies ever Star Wars The Force Awakens soon they’ll be more starring roles in big movies that show women in strong situations. Television has always glorified women as sex symbols, but I have personally seen good examples of strong women such in shows like Grey’s Anatomy, How to Get Away with Murder, Scandal, Empire and Supergirl all these shows have strong women characters as their lead stars like Taraji P. Henson who won the Golden Globe for her role in the Fox show Empire. Their are strides in the right direction for women in the entertainment industry which then I hope will lead to respect in everyday women that go through the hardships of disrespect in society, we all have to remember women are more than just really beautiful women are smart, strong and above all God’s most amazing creation.
