Week 7: Propaganda in Advertising

Sara Raheem

This advertisement demonstrates the “Beautiful people,” and “Rationalism” propaganda techniques. The picture of a pear contrasting a thin model with the title of “This is no shape for a girl,” is promoting underwear that creates a more “feminine” figure. This advertisement is inferring that if you do not look like the thin model depicted in the photo you’re not aesthetically attractive. Which is further perpetuating the shame of other body types. “Rationalism,” is used in this advertisement by the tone and zeal in the voice which is selling the product. They are promoting that buying this bra will enhance your physically appearance. They are manipulating their words and encouraging a certain physique is important to accomplish.
